Batumi with kids: dolphinarium, aquapark, the Boulevard, parks and beaches for children

Updated 3 November 2026

Batumi is an easy city with children: the dolphin show at 16:00 (30 lari, under 6 free), a 7-km seafront Boulevard with playgrounds, bikes for 2 lari an hour and a Ferris wheel (15 lari), the Argo cable car (9 lari for ages 5–11), boats and a free mini-zoo in 6 May Park, and in summer the water parks. The city beach is pebbly and gets deep fast, so with small children go to the sandy, shallow beach in Ureki, 50 km north. For a rainy day there are trampolines, play centres in the malls and a cinema. Below are prices and hours as of November 2026, and what works at which age.

The Boulevard: the easiest day

The Boulevard is where every family day starts: 7 km of flat promenade along the sea with a bike path, playgrounds (by the dancing fountains and by the pier), cafés with ice cream, and the sea on one side. Bikes are the way to cover it: the municipal BatumVelo scheme charges 2 ₾ an hour with a 20 ₾ card from the tourist information centre, and the private rental shops on the Boulevard have child seats and small bikes for about 5 ₾ an hour. The Ferris wheel near the Alphabet Tower (55 metres, open cabins, 15 ₾) gives a view of the whole bay; the Alphabet Tower itself has a lift to the top. In the evening from May to October the dancing fountains on Ardagani Lake, right by the New Boulevard, play music and light from about 20:00 — free, and children stand there for an hour. The Boulevard is stroller-friendly; the beach next to it is not — see below.

6 May Park: the dolphinarium and the lake

Fifteen minutes' walk from the Old Town, 6 May Park has everything in one place. The Batumi Dolphinarium show is at 16:00 every day except Monday, about 35 minutes, 30 ₾ a ticket, children under 6 free without their own seat; tickets at the box office (10:00–18:00) or online. Swimming with dolphins is a separate programme, 200 ₾, from age 5, booked in advance. The aquarium next to it is 5 ₾ (under 6 free), 10:00–18:00. The park also has a free mini-zoo (Tuesday to Sunday, 11:00–18:00 — small, with ponies, birds and monkeys), pedal boats on Nurigeli Lake (30 ₾ for half an hour), a carousel and playgrounds. In November the show still runs; the boats and rides work mainly in the warm season.

Water: aquapark, Dreamland and the sea

In summer there are two water parks. The Batumi aquapark behind the Boulevard on Khimshiashvili Street is small and old (five pools, a children's pool, about 40 ₾, under 6 free, 10:00–20:00); it opens only in summer and its slides have had bad reviews, so check on the day that it is running. Dreamland Oasis in Chakvi, 12 km north, is the newer resort water park with three outdoor pools and a children's zone: 85 ₾ on weekdays and 95 ₾ at weekends for adults, 35 ₾ for children aged 6–11, under 6 free, 10:00–20:00 in summer.

The sea itself: the city beach is pebbles, from marble- to palm-sized, and the seabed drops off within a few metres — fine for children who swim, hard for toddlers. Bring water shoes. Lifeguards are on the central sections from June to September. For small children the best beach is Ureki, 50 km north: fine black magnetic sand and water that stays shallow for fifty metres; Kobuleti, 25–30 km north, is a quieter sand-and-pebble beach with a gentler entry. The sea is warm from late June to late September — see the beaches and weather by month.

Rainy days and winter

It rains in Batumi on 12–14 days a month from November to March, so plan indoors. Jump Planet on Nobel Brothers Street is a trampoline park: 20 ₾ an hour on weekdays, 25 ₾ at weekends, open until midnight; a parent signs a consent form. The malls have play centres — Donaldo Land and the Zootopia petting zoo in Batumi Mall, Candy Land on Bagrationi Street — open until 22:00. Cavea cinema is in Grand Mall on Khimshiashvili Street, ten minutes' walk from our building, with films in the original language and Georgian subtitles (12 ₾ on Wednesdays). The Argo cable car works in winter too (it closes only in strong wind), and the upper station has Joyroom, a play zone with a mirror maze. The dolphin show runs all year.

A day out

The Botanical Garden at Green Cape has an electric bus along the main route (10 ₾ per person), which saves small legs on the hills. The Roman fortress in Gonio, 12 km south, is a flat walk inside the walls with a beach next door. Further afield, the Makhuntseti waterfall and the stone bridge in the mountains are an hour by car — see day trips from Batumi. For any of them a GoTrip car with a driver can be booked with a child seat; the taxi apps in Georgia do not offer one, so bring your own booster if you plan on taxis.

Practical

  • Pharmacies: many, several open 24 hours (GPC on Griboedov Street, PSP on Gorgiladze Street). Diapers, formula and baby food are in Carrefour across the street from us and in every pharmacy.
  • Doctors: International University Hospital (14 Aslan Abashidze Street, +995 422 213333) and BAU International Hospital (143 Bagrationi Street) have emergency departments; English is not guaranteed, so a translation app helps. Travel insurance is compulsory for visitors since 2026 anyway.
  • Train to Tbilisi: children under 5 travel free without a seat, ages 5–10 at half price — see Batumi to Tbilisi.
  • Eating out: Georgian food is child-friendly — khachapuri, khinkali, mtsvadi, lobio; high chairs are not everywhere, so ask. Ukrainochka by Ardagani Lake and the food court in Black Sea Mall are the easy options near us — see where to eat.
  • Heat: in July and August go out before 11:00 and after 17:00; midday is hot and humid.

Our studios with a child

Our two studios are on the 33rd floor of Blue Sky Tower, across the street from Black Sea Mall and 7 minutes on foot from the beach and the dancing fountains. Each sleeps up to three: a king bed and a sofa bed of 130 × 210 cm, which fits a child or a teenager; there is a full kitchen for baby food and breakfasts, a washing machine, a bathroom with a heated floor, and a balcony with a lounge corner (keep an eye on small children there). The two studios are next to each other, so two families or grandparents can take both. You book directly with us on this site: see the studios.
