A walk from our building: the New Boulevard
From our building, the beach and the New Boulevard are 7 minutes on foot. Batumi Boulevard runs about 7 km along the sea: the old part dates from the 1880s, the New Boulevard was added in 2009 (Visit Ajara) — that is our side of town, wider and calmer than the centre. Walk north along the water and in about an hour you reach Miracle Park.
Close to us, Ardagani Lake is one of three places where the dancing fountains play; the others are the Old Boulevard and Europe Square. georgia.travel lists shows from 21:00 to 02:00, about 30 minutes every hour; schedules can change, so check on the day.
Batumi Dolphinarium is on Rustaveli Street by 6 May Park. In November 2026 its site lists a show at 16:00 every day except Monday: about 35 minutes, 30 lari, children under 6 free without their own seat.
The coast faces west, so the sun sets over the water. We watch it from the beach by the New Boulevard, then go back up to see the city lights from the 33rd floor.
The centre: Alphabet Tower and Ali & Nino
At the end of the Old Boulevard, in Miracle Park, stands the Alphabet Tower: 130 metres, a double helix with the 33 letters of the Georgian alphabet, an open terrace and a revolving restaurant at the top (georgia.travel). Visit Ajara lists tickets at 5–20 lari.
Next to it is Ali & Nino, the moving steel sculpture by Tamar Kvesitadze (2010): two figures come together and pass through each other, and the cycle repeats every 10 minutes (Visit Ajara). It is best at sunset and after dark, when it is lit.
Old Batumi: Europe Square, Medea and Piazza
Europe Square, on Memed Abashidze Avenue, is the heart of the Old Town: Medea holding the Golden Fleece — the myth of the Argonauts and ancient Colchis — a large fountain and 19th- and 20th-century buildings around (Visit Batumi). Piazza, a short walk away, has cafés, an open-air stage with live music in the evening, a clock with moving figures and a large marble mosaic (Visit Ajara). Between them, the streets of Old Batumi are best explored without a plan.
Argo cable car
The lower station is on the edge of the Old Town, near the port. The gondola climbs about 2.6 km in 15 minutes to Mount Anuria, 256 metres above the sea. Visit Ajara lists 39 lari for ages 12 and over, 9 lari for children 5–11, free under 5, open 10:00–22:00. At the top: the whole bay, the port, the mountains, and the Batumi Digital Space museum. Go up an hour before sunset.
Batumi Botanical Garden
The garden lies north of the city, on the far side from us, and is worth half a day. How to get there and what to see — in our article Batumi Botanical Garden.
Day trips: Gonio and the Adjara mountains
Gonio-Apsaros Fortress is about 12 km from Batumi, towards the Turkish border; the fortress dates back to the 1st century AD. Visit Ajara lists it open 10:00–17:00, 15 lari for foreign visitors.
Makhuntseti waterfall is about 30 km from Batumi, in the Acharistskali valley: the water falls about 50 metres, and the stone arch of Queen Tamar's Bridge is a few minutes' walk away (Visit Batumi). Many tours from Batumi combine it with other stops in the mountains. For forest trails, there is Mtirala National Park.
A plan for one day and for three
One day. Morning: walk along the New Boulevard to Miracle Park — Alphabet Tower, Ali & Nino. Afternoon: the Old Town, Piazza, Europe Square. An hour before sunset: the Argo cable car. Evening: a Bolt home and the fountains at Ardagani Lake.
