Batumi Botanical Garden: how to get there, tickets and opening hours

Updated 2 November 2026

Batumi Botanical Garden lies on the Green Cape (Mtsvane Kontskhi), about 9 km north of the city centre, and the easiest way there is Bolt or a taxi to the main entrance: about 20 minutes from the centre and 20–30 minutes from our building, Blue Sky Tower. By public transport, bus No. 10 and minibus No. 40 stop near two of the garden's three ticket offices. Plan 2–3 hours inside; the garden opens at 9:00, and a ticket for foreign visitors costs 20–25 lari.

What the garden is

The garden opened in 1912 and covers 108.7 hectares of coastline between the mouth of the Chakvistskali river and the Green Cape, rising from the sea to about 220 metres. It has nine geographic sections — from East Asia and the Himalayas to Mexico and the Mediterranean — and three parks: the Upper, the Lower and the Seaside park. It is a hillside park above the sea rather than a glasshouse.

How to get there from the city centre

Bolt or taxi. The simplest option. Ask for «Botanical Garden, main entrance, Green Cape». Bolt shows the price before you confirm; with a street taxi, agree on the price in lari before the car moves.

Minibus No. 40. According to the garden's website, it runs every 15 minutes from Batumi Trade Center on Agmashenebeli Street, along Chavchavadze Street. Get off at the stop where the road enters Chakvi: the 3rd ticket office is 300 m away.

Bus No. 10. Every 40 minutes from Zeda Gele Street, along Melikishvili, Chavchavadze, Rustaveli and Gogebashvili streets; the stop is 100 m from the 2nd ticket office.

Routes and timetables change, so check the trip in Google Maps (Transit mode) on the day, and pay with a contactless bank card or a Batumi Card.

Which entrance to choose

There are three entrances, each with a ticket office. The main one is on the Green Cape, at the Lower Park — the oldest part of the garden, closest to the sea; name this one to the driver. The 2nd ticket office is closest to bus No. 10, the 3rd is on the Chakvi side, near minibus No. 40. When you order a car back, set the pickup at the gate where you actually are.

Tickets and opening hours

The garden's official price list sets the base ticket at 20 lari. Reduced prices — 10 lari for citizens and permanent residents of Georgia, 5 lari for students of Georgian universities and resident pensioners, 2 lari for pupils of Georgian schools — require an ID; preschool children enter free. The Adjara tourism portal lists 25 lari for foreign visitors, so have 25 lari with you: the ticket office has the final word. Batumi Card holders may get a discount — ask at the window.

The garden opens at 9:00 every day. Closing time changes with the season: on the official site it was 17:30 in winter and 19:30–20:00 in the warmer months.

An electric bus runs along the main tourist route inside: 10 lari per person for foreign visitors, or 100 lari for a private hour for up to five people.

How long to plan, and how much walking

The Adjara tourism portal estimates 2–3 hours for the whole garden; with the road, it is half a day. The paths climb to about 220 metres and some are steep, so wear comfortable shoes. With small children or older guests, the electric bus saves the climbs.

What to see inside

  • The Lower Park by the main entrance: an alley of century-old magnolias, a 19th-century villa, Japanese camellias that bloom in winter and viewpoints at the top.
  • Large-flowered magnolias about 125 years old, evergreen sequoias and a fragrant osmanthus alley.
  • Bamboo, quiet Japanese gardens and collections of citrus, roses and camellias.
  • The views of the sea and the coast from the slopes above the Green Cape.

Best season, food and water

There is something all year: camellias in winter, flowers in spring, shade in summer, colour and citrus in autumn. For walking, we would choose April–June or September–November; in July and August go right at opening time.

The Adjara tourism portal mentions places to eat and picnic areas, but take water with you, especially in summer.

What to combine it with

The coast road continues north to Chakvi and Tsikhisdziri, with the ruins of Petra fortress above the sea.

From Blue Sky Tower

Our studios are in Blue Sky Tower, Block B, on Tbel Abuseridze Street, across from Black Sea Mall. The garden is about 11 km away by road, 20–30 minutes by Bolt; order it to the front of Black Sea Mall — every driver knows it. By public transport you would first have to get to the centre, so we would go by car. After the garden, the beach is a 7-minute walk from home — just in time for a sunset swim. See the studios.
