Batumi weather and sea by month: when to go

Updated 2 November 2026

Batumi's weather is warm enough for the beach from June to October: the sea averages about 20–26 °C and the daytime air about 20–26 °C. Winter is mild — about 10–15 °C by day and above zero at night — but wet, with rain on almost every other day from November to March. Below are month-by-month averages from open climate data and what each season is like in practice.

Averages, rounded. Air and sea temperatures differ between sources by 1–2 °C, so read every figure as «about»; rainfall is the long-term norm for the Batumi airport station (1981–2010), a rainy day meaning at least 1 mm.

Summer: June to August

The beach season starts in June, when the sea passes 20 °C, and peaks in August at about 26 °C. Days are around 26 °C, nights stay warm, and the air is humid — the official tourism portal of Adjara calls the summers hot and muggy. Even in July there are about ten days with some rain, but they rarely spoil a whole holiday. This is also the busiest and most expensive time: book early, especially for August.

Velvet season: September and October

For many people this is the best time. In September the sea is still about 24 °C, warmer than in June, and the crowds have gone home. The catch is rain: September and October are the wettest months by volume — over 300 mm each — though it falls on only 11–12 days, so it comes as fewer, heavier downpours rather than constant drizzle. By the end of October the sea is around 20 °C; in a warm year you can still swim.

Winter: November to March

We will be honest: winter in Batumi is not a beach holiday. It rains on 12–14 days a month, and the city gets about 2,500 mm a year — it is the wettest city in Georgia. What you get in return is a mild winter (10–15 °C by day, about 10 °C in January and February), light snow that rarely lasts, an empty boulevard, and lower prices than in summer.

Winter works well for a quiet week by the sea, for remote work, and for a month-long stay. Pack a waterproof jacket, an umbrella and shoes that do not mind puddles. On a rainy day, the shops, cafés and cinema of a big mall are a good plan — ours is across the street.

Spring: April and May

Spring is green and mild, and April and May are among the driest months of the year. The air warms up quickly — about 21 °C by day in May — but the sea lags behind: about 16 °C in May is too cold for most swimmers. A good time for walks, the city and the mountains rather than the beach.

Our studios in any season

Our two studios are on the 33rd floor of Blue Sky Tower, Block B: across the street from Black Sea Mall, 7 minutes on foot to the beach and the New Boulevard. In summer the climate system cools; in winter it heats, and there are radiators too. The bathroom has a heated floor with its own thermostat and hot water around the clock, and there is a washing machine and a folding drying rack on the balcony. For a long winter stay there is a work desk and Wi-Fi up to 65 Mbps, and monthly rates apply automatically from 28 nights. You book directly with us on this site: see the studios.
