Trails: length, time and what is on them
Tsablnari, the chestnut forest trail. The park site gives 7 km, easy, along the Chakvistskali gorge between 265 and 442 m; TripLinkHub gives 3–4 hours for the loop. The trails start across the river, so you first take the hand-wheel cable cabin (Travelers & Dreamers, March 2026). Dolidoki (February 2025) describes about 700 m to a small lake, about 15 °C in summer, and a steeper 1.5 km to the waterfall, which is 28 m on the park site and 15 m on GoBatumi.
Tsivtskaro, the two-day trail. It runs 16 km, medium, from 260 to 1,250 m through mixed forest and beech (park site), with a shelter for 8 people at km 9. GoBatumi recommends a guide or ranger, so phone the park first.
Entry, zip line and other prices
The park's price lists show no entry fee, and The Georgian Guide (September 2026) and Travelers & Dreamers (March 2026) say entry is free. International Parks shows a fee of "5" with no currency; we found nothing official to support it.
The park site lists the 220 m zip line at 20 ₾, in spring, summer and autumn and not in rain. Travelers & Dreamers and GoTrip give 15 ₾, so bring 20 ₾. georgia.travel says it runs all year and describes about 570 m in three sections, with tickets from the visitor centre. Ask which line you are buying: the private Mtirala Club line, 600 m, is 70 ₾ (+995 558 01 70 07, Visit Ajara).
The Agency of Protected Areas lists camping at 10 ₾ per person a day, picnic spots at 15–40 ₾ and snowshoes at 20 ₾ a day.
Visitor centre and hours
The visitor centre is in Chakvistavi, where the first trail starts. The park office is at 13 Megeneishvili Street in Chakvi, 15 km lower down, so do not navigate there for the trails. Neither the park site nor the Agency lists hours. GoTrip's blog (November 2024) gives 09:00–18:00 daily, and Moedani (August 2025) says winter hours are shorter. We could not confirm more, so call +995 577 10 18 89. There is no internet (Visit Ajara) and only partial mobile coverage (GoBatumi), so download a map first.
How to get there
Minibus and taxi. The park site lists minibus 40, about every 6 minutes, and bus 13, every 30 minutes, to Chakvi from the Batumi shopping centre (Khopa market) on Aghmashenebeli Street. Kobuleti minibuses also stop, from the car park by the Catholic church at 54 Gogebashvili Street: ask for the Chakvistskali turn-off. Fares quoted are 2 ₾ on the 40 (GoTrip, November 2024) and 3 ₾ on the Kobuleti minibus (Wander-Lush, March 2026). A taxi from Chakvi to the visitor centre is 20–30 ₾ one way and 50–60 ₾ both ways (GoBatumi, undated); Travelers & Dreamers expects about 70 ₾ with three hours' wait. Agree the wait before you leave.
Direct buses. GoBatumi lists Batumi – Chakvistavi on Mondays and Fridays only, 3 ₾, at 08:00 and 17:50, back at 09:30 and 19:00, but also gives 07:30 and 16:00 elsewhere, so call first. Batumi – Khala runs daily for 1 ₾ (08:30, 11:30, 14:30, 17:50; back 09:20, 12:20, 15:20, 18:30), but GoBatumi and Wander-Lush count 7 km on foot from Khala, and GoTrip about 2 km.
Bolt or GoTrip. Bolt is 35–45 ₾ one way (Wander-Lush, The Georgian Guide), but the apps do not cover the way back (Dolidoki), so arrange that first. GoTrip's search on 4 November 2026 showed 100–115 ₾ per car from the nine cheapest drivers, return, 54 km and 1 h 57 min of driving with free waiting; with the Botanical Garden it was 127–142 ₾.
How far the road goes. From Chakvi a narrow asphalt road runs 15 km to the visitor centre, about 45 minutes by the park's count, and 28.4 km and 57 minutes in all from Batumi. GoTrip's blog notes a small gravel stretch, and Travelers & Dreamers found parts rough and hard to pass. After the visitor centre you walk: motor vehicles are not allowed in the park (park site).
Rain gear
Mtirala means "crying". Rainfall is over 4,500 mm a year at the summit and 2,500–3,000 mm on the lower slopes, with no dry season (International Parks). Bring waterproofs in any month and sturdy high-top shoes: rocks and roots are slippery after rain (Moedani). See also Batumi weather by month.
Is Mtirala open in winter?
Sources disagree. The park site lists hiking in all four seasons, with the zip line and rope park from spring to autumn only, and Madloba (September 2026) says the chestnut route works all year. GoBatumi gives May–October for Tsablnari and June–September for Tsivtskaro, and TripLinkHub (undated) says the trails close in winter because of slippery paths. We could not confirm whether the visitor centre is staffed in winter, so phone before any trip from November to April.
Chakvistavi: the village at the gate
Chakvistavi is 25 km from Batumi at 350 m, surrounded by the park (GoBatumi). The Agency of Protected Areas lists four cottages at 50 ₾ per person a night, and georgia.to mentions guesthouses. GoBatumi's 2018 feature describes old water mills and residents selling honey, and Dolidoki mentions local cafés. We could not confirm which cafés stay open out of season.
Our studios after the rain
Our two studios are on the 33rd floor of Blue Sky Tower, across the street from Black Sea Mall. Each has a kitchen with coffee and tea for the first morning; back from the park, there is a rain shower, a washing machine and a folding drying rack on the balcony. You book directly with us on this site: see the studios.
