Minibus 77: where it leaves and what to look for

Minibus 77 runs Batumi – Makhuntseti – Keda from the Old Bus Station at 1 St Severian Achareli Street, formerly Mayakovsky Street (Madloba, September 2026), not from the New Bus Station on Tsabadze Street. Look for the number and "Keda" (ქედა) on the windscreen: Madloba warns that vehicles with the same number sometimes end in different places.

How often. No timetable is published, and Madloba says it changes by season. Rome2Rio lists a minibus to Keda every 30 minutes; Wander-Lush (March 2026) and The Georgian Guide (September 2026) give every 30 minutes from 08:00 for the Khulo vans.

Fare. Madloba's lists, updated in September 2026, give 3 ₾ to Keda and to the bridge and 10 ₾ to Khulo, which is why guides that send you on a Khulo van quote 10 ₾. Undated pages still quote 1.5–2 ₾. Pay in cash when you board or get off.

Time and stop. About 40 minutes by Madloba, about an hour by The Georgian Guide. When you board, say "Makhuntseti" (მახუნცეთი) or "khidi" (ხიდი, the bridge).

The way back: the last minibus

We could not find a published time for the last minibus to Batumi; Madloba says only to check with the driver. The two pointers we found are old or general: a TravelAsk forum answer from about 2022 says every half hour until 18:00, and Moedani (August 2025) says services thin out after 18:00–19:00. So ask on the way out and plan to be back at the main road by about 17:00. Rome2Rio lists Bolt here at about €8–10 (23–29 ₾), but we could not confirm how soon a car comes out to the village.

GoTrip or a taxi

GoTrip's search on 4 November 2026, with no date chosen, showed 88–103 ₾ per car from the nine cheapest drivers, return: 56 km and 1 h 32 min of driving, with free waiting. The one-way search shows the same prices. Wander-Lush and The Georgian Guide still quote from 70 ₾.

For a street taxi, Tonkosti gives 30–40 ₾ one way and Georgia Spirit 60–100 ₾ per car for a half day. Agree the wait and the price in lari first.

The waterfall: the walk and the height

georgia.travel gives a five-minute walk from the main road, GoTrip puts the falls about 100 m from it, and Georgia Spirit adds a steep 15-minute climb to an upper viewpoint. Entry is free all year (Madloba).

Heights differ: Madloba gives up to 52 m in total with about 30 m visible, Visit Batumi and georgia.travel 50 m, and GoTrip 30 m. People swim in the pool in warm weather (GoTrip). Summer weekends are crowded, so arrive before 10:00–11:00 (Madloba).

Queen Tamar's stone bridge

The single stone arch crosses the Adjaristskali about 54 m from the Batumi–Khulo road (Keda municipality) and 400–500 m from the falls (Tonkosti, GoTrip). Visit Batumi gives 28.7 m long, 2.5 m wide and 6.3 m above the water, Keda municipality 24 m, and Visit Ajara 19.5 m pier to pier.

Visit Ajara and Visit Batumi date it to the 12th century and georgia.travel to the 9th–10th; Madloba says the dating is disputed and that "Tamara bridges" is a folk name. It was rehabilitated in 2008 (Keda municipality). You can walk across, but Tonkosti notes it has no railings or steps, so take care when the stone is wet.

Is it worth it in winter?

Yes for a short trip on a dry day, if you come for the water and not for a swim; no if ice or snow is forecast. georgia.travel lists the falls as open all year. Madloba says the road towards Keda can be icy or temporarily closed, and Moedani warns of wet boardwalks and slick shaded stretches. The flow is strongest with the snowmelt from April to early June (Madloba), and Tonkosti says winter also has more water than warm weather.

We found no winter minibus timetable or road bulletin and could not confirm that the cafés stay open, so go in the morning and bring food. See also Batumi in winter.
